The continuance of key infrastructure services (particularly in emergency situations) is vital to maintain social and economic conditions. MED has a role in providing business and infrastructure providers with information to assist them in planning for an emergency.

In the response phase of an emergency event, MED would be one of a number of advice streams that the lead agency (e.g. Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management, Ministry of Health or the Police) and the Government would use to assist its decision making process. This would primarily include advice on energy, ICT and broader economic impacts.
