MED has a role in providing businesses and infrastructure providers with information to assist them in planning for an emergency.  In the response phase of an emergency event, MED would be one of a number of advice streams that the lead agency (e.g. Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management, Ministry of Health, New Zealand Police) and the Government would use to assist its decision making process.  This would include advice on energy, telecommunications, and economic impacts.
