Renewables Preference Policy

The following papers are released in support of the Electricity (Renewable Preference) Amendment Act 2008 additions to the Electricity Act 1992, which received royal assent on 25 September 2008.

The released papers include the supporting Cabinet papers and associated decisions that formed the policy development for the Climate Change (Emissions Trading and Renewables Preference) Bill that was introduced to Parliament on 4 December 2007. Also included are copies of the advice letters sent by the Minister of State Owned Enterprises to the three state-owned generators prior to the introduction of the Bill.

Submissions to the Select Committee and the Committee’s report on the Bill are available at the parliamentary website.

Submissions were sought on draft regulations which are needed to support the Electricity (Renewable Preference) Amendment Act 2008 additions to the Electricity Act 1992. The released discussion paper outlines the proposed design and substance for the regulations, including where applicable, the quantitative values.

Consultation on the draft regulations closed on 5 pm Wednesday 5th November 2008.

Development of regulations and analysis of submissions has been halted with the repeal of Part 6A of the Electricity Act in December 2008.
