2007 Investment Forum
Ensuring that New Zealand has a high quality investment environment is important if we are to effectively support the growth of globally competitive firms. It is equally important for the development of a strong savings and investment culture for all New Zealanders.
During 2007, Ministry officials led a project to explore the role of New Zealand’s financial system in the internationalisation of firms, and whether a more effective investment market could help New Zealand to take its share of the benefits of a globalised market.
The following report was prepared by officials to summarise the published academic literature and the divergent range of views that were expressed to officials throughout the course of the project.
The report was prepared to stimulate discussion in advance of a forum of business people and financial market participants that was held in Wellington on 27 November 2007.
