Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of New Zealand and the Government of Australia on Coordination of Business Law


The current Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Hon Lianne Dalziel and Hon Peter Costello on 22 February 2006.  The MoU reaffirms both countries' commitment to coordination of trans-Tasman business law and commits both countries to working together to reduce impediments to trans-Tasman commerce.  The MoU also sets new priority areas for trans-Tasman business law coordination.

The MoU provides for five yearly reviews and the next review is due to take place in 2011.

Trans-Tasman Memorandum of Understanding on Coordination of Business Law  [ Published 22 February 2006 ]
The MOU was entered into under the umbrella of the CER Trade Agreement between Australia and New Zealand of 1983. The focus of the MOU is on reducing transaction costs, lessening compliance costs and uncertainty, and increasing competition.

Review of Trans-Tasman MOU on Coordination of Business Law Signed - Minister of Commerce Media Statement  [ Published 22 February 2006 ]
New Zealand Commerce Minister Lianne Dalziel and Australian Treasurer Peter Costello today signed a revised Memorandum of Understanding on Coordination of Business Law between Australia and New Zealand.
