Rugby World Cup 2011 Finals Venue


Part of New Zealand's bid to host the 2011 RWC included a commitment to provide a 60,000 seat capacity stadium for the final matches. The Government explored various options for providing a venue befitting a RWC final, including building a new stadium or upgrading an existing stadium.

  • Redevelopment of Eden Park

    In February 2007 the Government agreed to support a redevelopment proposal for Eden Park, which includes a new South Stand and the use of temporary seating to achieve the 60,000 seat capacity.

  • Evaluation of Finals Venues for Rugby World Cup 2011
    On 1 December 2006, the Minister for the Rugby World Cup released a number of Cabinet papers, minutes and reports relating to the evaluation of venues for Rugby World Cup 2011.
