The Ministry is currently preparing a Standards and Conformance Bill. This will make a number of amendments to the Standards Act 1988 and the Testing Laboratory Registration Act 1972 aimed at clarifying the functions of the relevant institutions and updating New Zealand's standards and conformance infrastructure. The Bill is expected to be introduced into Parliament in the first quarter of 2005. A Cabinet Paper  outlining the government's decisions on this Bill has been released.
