Growing Globally Competitive Firms
The ability of New Zealand firms to compete internationally is critical to our economic future. Global competitiveness exists at three levels: being internationally competitive within the domestic market, being competitive within global markets and developing New Zealand based firms with global presence.
Globally competitive firms have effective, well financed business strategies. They are market-led, highly profitable, and implement best practice processes to produce globally competitive goods and services. To be globally competitive, firms require effective governance, strong management, innovative workplace cultures, and skilled and motivated staff.
MED leads this theme and much of our work improves the quality of regulations that shape the business environment or New Zealand's connections to global markets. Two other specific areas of focus are creating an environment for succesful small and medium enterprises and improving the management and business capability of firms.
