Review of Parts 4, 4A, and 5 of the Commerce Act 1986
On 22 May 2006, the Minister of Commerce announced that Parts 4 and 5 of the Commerce Act (which relate to the control of goods and services; and to authorisations and clearances) will be reviewed. On 13 September 2006, Cabinet decided to include Part 4A (which contains provisions relating specifically to the control of electricity lines businesses) in the Review.
The Review will be split into two streams, a Review of Regulatory Control Provisions of the Commerce Act and a Review of Authorisation and Clearance Provisions of the Commerce Act.
The outcomes of the review of the regulatory control provisions of the Commerce Act were enacted through the Commerce Amendment Act in September 2008. Cabinet decisions on the review of the clearance and authorisation provisions were made in October 2008.
