APEC-IBIZ Training and Certification Program

Supporting the growth and development of SMEs is a primary objective of the New Zealand Government. Business counsellors and mentors play a major part in this role, helping to guide SME owners and managers through the hurdles associated with starting and growing a business.

In 2001, the International Network of Institutes of Small Business Counsellors (APEC-IBIZ) was created as the APEC international training and certification program for consultants, counsellors, and other professionals who assist entrepreneurs.

The design of the APEC-IBIZ program provides for the establishment or selection of an "Economy Institute" to oversee and co-ordinate the delivery of the program in each APEC participating economy.

To ensure SME owners and managers continue to receive high quality advice and assistance, the Ministry of Economic Development is issuing a request for proposals from parties desiring to provide the APEC-IBIZ Training and Certification program for Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs) Counsellors and Facilitators in New Zealand.

The successful applicant(s) to the Ministry's request for proposals will be endorsed by the Ministry to act as the Economy Institute for New Zealand for the purposes of the APEC-IBIZ program.

Auckland University of Technology has now been appointed the APEC-IBIZ provider in New Zealand.
