Strategic Consideration of ICT Security and Confidence in New Zealand

Promoting the safe and secure use of information and communication technologies is important in ensuring that users have the confidence to obtain the full economic and social benefits that are available from these technologies. The Government has a key role in this area as the developer and promoter of public policy initiatives, the administrator and enforcer of legislation, and the owner, operator and user of ICT systems and networks.

A Discussion Paper has been produced as part of the work on the Government's Digital Strategy and was released on 16 March 2006. The paper seeks comment from interested parties on what are the key issues from an ICT safety and security perspective that the Government should be focusing on as part of its role in promoting confidence in the use of information and communications technologies. Submissions close on 13 April 2006.

Following the receipt of submissions on the questions raised by the discussion paper the Ministry will be analysing and reporting on these with a view to identifying work priorities and working with other agencies to develop work programmes for key issues.
