Cabinet agreed that the Relay Service would be reviewed one year after its implementation and that the outcomes of this review would be reported to the Minister of Communications and the Minister for Disability Issues.

The Review included two public consultation rounds and a number of supporting documents were prepared.

The final report was completed in July 2006, and Ministers subsequently agreed to all the recommendations in the report.

  The final report of the Telecommunications Relay Service Stakeholder Review recommended a number of improvements to the Relay Service. The Minister of Communications and Minister of Disability Issues subsequently agreed to these recommendations.

  On 2 June 2006 the Ministry released the draft report of the Telecommunications Relay Service Stakeholder Review and called for comment on the draft recommendations. Submissions closed on 23 June 2006.

  A number of supporting documents were prepared during the course of the review.

  The Ministry sought comment from interested people on how well the Relay Service is meeting the needs of people who use it. The closing date was 14 March 2006.
• Telecommunications Relay Service: Stakeholder Review: Terms of Reference  [ Published 01 February 2006 ]
  The review is to cover operation of the TRS system and the textphone pool from 15 November 2004 to 15 November 2005.
