Key strategic initiative for local government

Local government is recognised as being extremely important to the success of the Ultra-Fast Broadband Initiative.  Local authorities can contribute to the initiative by recognising it as a key strategic initiative for their region.

Local authorities have also been asked to:

  • Make local assets and land available for the initiative
  • Streamline and co-ordinate regulatory process and communications
  • Use low cost technologies to enable more efficient deployment of fibre.

The benefit to local government is that it will enable councils and territorial authorities to provide more and better services to ratepayers.  It will allow local businesses to compete nationally and internationally and it will enable communities to retain workforces.
