Cyber security
Cyber security aims to make digital networks as secure as possible by taking all practical steps to:
- Maintain the confidentiality, availability and integrity of information.
- Detect any intrusions and incidents.
- Respond to any intrusions or incidents.
- Recover from any intrusions or incidents.
The Ministry of Economic Development is the lead agency for New Zealand's cyber security policy. We work with other relevant government and non-government organisations.
Cyber Security Strategy
This is the government's plan to improve New Zealand’s cyber security.
It sets out targeted initiatives in three priority areas to improve cyber security for individuals, businesses and government. Implementation begins in 2011.
Increase awareness and online security
The Government will work with industry and non-government organisations to improve access to cyber security information, raise awareness and address other cyber security awareness issues.
Protect government systems and information
The Government will establish a National Cyber Security Centre and implement steps to improve cyber security practices across government.
Review incident response and planning
The Government will review its plans and response to manage cyber incidents.
