East Asia Summit Energy Cooperation Taskforce
Established in 2005, the East Asia Summit is a forum of 18 countries to address the region's political and economic challenges and strategic opportunities.
Membership comprises the 10 ASEAN countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) and Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea, the United States, Russia, and New Zealand.
At the group's second summit in January 2007, leaders adopted the Cebu Declaration on East Asian Energy Security, and agreed to establish the East Asia Summit Energy Cooperation Taskforce to undertake cooperative action on regional energy security issues. We lead New Zealand's participation in this taskforce at officials' level, but do not participate in its subsidiary workstreams.
