The cost for constructing the temporary stadium is being funded by financial contributions from the Government and the Christchurch City Council, and will be supported by hire fees from sporting codes keen to use the venue (such as the Canterbury Rugby Union and the New Zealand Rugby Union). The stadium is also being built on land offered to the city by the Christchurch City Council.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available for corporates and suppliers of goods and services to the stadium.

We thank our immediate commercial and residential neighbours, including Addington Raceway and CBS Arena, for their encouragement and patience as dirty and noisy construction work gets underway.

The devastating earthquakes of 2010 and 2011 left Christchurch without a venue to host large outdoor sporting and music events over the short to medium term.

Following a review of other venues Addington was considered the most suitable (available) location for the new stadium. The Addington venue has been used for A&P shows and rugby matches in the past, and already had open space zoning. Canterbury Rugby League kindly agreed to surrender their lease of the old Rugby League Park to allow the new stadium project to proceed.
