Strategy
The New Zealand Government, through New Zealand Major Events, works in partnership with the event sector to support New Zealand’s growing reputation as an attractive destination for major events of global significance.
Background
In 2001, an Inter-Agency Events Group (IAEG) was established to improve the coordination of government involvement in events through maintaining an overview of event proposals and through sharing of information and joint consideration of proposals.
Role
New Zealand Major Events is located within the Science, Skills & Innovation Group of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and is funded from an appropriation in the Government’s Economic Development budget.

The Major Events Ministers Group brings together five Ministerial portfolios with event investment and leveraging interests.
