This annually-updated publication provides a picture of energy sector emissions for the calendar years 1990-2007. Emission estimates are derived for the direct greenhouse gases carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O). Also included are estimates of carbon dioxide emissions from chemical processes used in industrial production. The inventory has a base year of 1990.

The Ministry also models and produces scenarios of future energy supply and demand (see New Zealand Energy Outlook), which include energy carbon dioxide emissions projections to 2030.
Hard-copies of previous editions are available to purchase for $50.00 (excluding postage and packaging) using the Order Form. All editions published from 1997 onwards are available online free of charge in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF).
