Draft Patents Bill

The Patents Bill was introduced to Parliament in July 2008 and given its first reading in May 2009.

The Bill was referred to the Commerce Select Committee.  Read the full text of the Bill on the New Zealand Legislation website (including amendments recommended by the Committee).

Review of the Patents Act

The Draft Patents Bill is the result of a review of the Patents Act 1953.  In August 2000 the government agreed to a three-stage review of the Act to take account of the social and technological changes since it was passed.
