Helping firms to internationalise

New Zealand needs more internationalised businesses to participate fully in the global marketplace.

To improve productivity, New Zealand needs to encourage more businesses to internationalise.  Going global also needs to become more embedded in business operations.

It can be difficult for New Zealand businesses to develop the skills and relationships they need to operate internationally because of:

  • Our economy's structure and size.
  • Geographical distance from markets.
  • A lack of large internationally-focused businesses.

The government's economic development agency, New Zealand Trade & Enterprise, has a key role in helping businesses develop those skills and relationships.
